The choir numbers around a hundred singers at present, but we are able to increase this to 150 by inviting former members and other choristers for the really big works. The youngest members of the choir are still at secondary school, and we have several members who have received Twenty Years' certificates, some several years ago.

After fifty years, we have recently moved our rehearsal venue from Lower Hutt to Thorndon in Wellington, where about half of the members live; we draw the rest of our membership from the Porirua, Kapiti Coast and Hutt Valley areas.

We rehearse in Thorndon School Hall on Tuesday nights from 7.30 - 9.30pm. A rehearsal schedule is published for each up-coming concert, which indicates the required number of regular practices as well as the specific rehearsals which are compulsory for concert performance.

We hold annual auditions, and each year the choir holds either a weekend camp in the summer to prepare for an engagement with the New Zealand Festival, or a one-day workshop to focus on choral skills. If possible, an international choral conductor is engaged to lead a workshop at these singing days.

As well as concerts mounted by the choir, we have been invited to sing at community events - for instance the Opening Days of Te Papa and Wellington Airport, and we have sung Christmas carols each year for the National Library, recorded sound tracks for TV documentaries and advertisements, as well as regular engagements with NZSO.
