ORPHEUS AUDITIONS

What we are looking for:

  • confident performer who is open to development vocally, musically and technically
  • sense of performance
  • reliable performer
  • high level of musicianship
  • clear, free, easily produced voice

What to expect in the audition:

  • Vocal range test
  • Ear test (middle notes of triads or lower of two notes played together)
  • Prepared song, aria, folksong etc - around 2 minutes long
  • Sightsinging (2 or more short examples)

Do’s and don’ts of auditioning

  • Do take copies of music for the accompanist
  • Do arrive in time to settle a bit.  At least 20 minutes before the scheduled time of your audition is advisable.  This gives time for a little warm-up.  The first notes you sing that day should not be in the audition.
  • Do go to bed early the night before and avoid alcohol as it tends to dry out the throat and reduce vocal performance. Sleep is the singer’s friend.
  • Do be positive.  Concentrate on what you can do not what you can’t do.
  • Don’t enter the audition room making excuses for yourself.
  • DO TRY IT – better to audition and find out what it’s all about than not
